Touring through the Chakras: Try it for yourself

Hello lovelies!

So as a follow up to the previous post about Looking Within, I wanted to expand a bit on the process of journeying through the chakral system. I shared this with a few friends I met this past weekend at the Holistic Health Saloon at The Center SF, and thought it was something worth sharing here as well.

I use this practice when I’m feeling disconnected and need a bit of structure to ground and center me.

Each chakra is associated with a color, sound and a thought/phrase. So often in addition to following the chakras from the root to the crown (or vice versa) I add the words out loud, while picturing the color and inviting awareness into that area of my body. I will feel into each and allow any emotion or energy to move into my awareness- I can then clear it more easily. I also try to relax the muscles around each region, without forcing or rushing, just allowing them to let go bit by bit.

1)     Root - Cervix in the female/hips/low back- Red - I AM

2)     Sacral - Genitals/Uterus/pelvic bowl/low back- Orange - I FEEL

3)     Solar Plexus- Just above the bellybutton to below the breast bone-Yellow- I WILL/EXPRESS/CREATE* (pick whichever feels right)

4)     Heart- Heart space, rib cage, chest, sternum into the thoracic spine posteriorly- Green- I LOVE

5)     Throat- Throat/Mouth/Back of the Neck- Sky Blue- I SPEAK

6)     Third Eye -Between the eyebrows on the forehead/into the head- Indigo- I SEE

7)     Crown- Crown/Top of the head- Violet/White- I KNOW

  • If you want you can add a chant or mantra as you go to each with the following seed sounds

  • 1: LAM, 2: VAM, 3: RAM, 4: YAM, 5: HAM, 6: OM, 7: OM/AUM.

When a person/situation/word/feeling comes up, take a moment to feel into it; ask yourself do I like this energy? How does this feel to me? Can I name it or describe it (tense, jittery, heavy etc)? Is it mine?

Oftentimes this last question is the most critical question. Most of the time if the energy feels “off” or unpleasant to me it’s not mine. This was something that took time and practice for me to learn, so be delightfully patient with yourself. The reward was a vastly different experience of day-to-day life, a new perspective on interactions and a renewed connection with my body.

I invite you to try this out for yourself using the chakras as a guide! If you feel called to a particular area of the body, I’d invite you to head right there! When accessing your intuition there are no “rights”, “wrongs” or “musts” - there’s only what feels good to you. Play, relax, become curious and be gentle with yourself, always.

Let me know how you do!

Love,

Joanne
